Students: Volunteer in your community!

Call for Submission

The 2008 National Conference on Volunteering and Service is seeking stories to highlight this June in Atlanta. Whether you're a volunteer, national service participant, or on the staff of a program that uses volunteers, we're interested in hearing about your successes and sharing them with your colleagues.

Submissions will also be considered for media story ideas, web site features, and other marketing materials. Tell us your story and include the following:

· Inspiration:What motivated you to get involved?

· Action: What did you do?

· Results:What changed because of your efforts?

Stories can be submitted on one of two ways:video or narrative with photos. 1. Video: a. Please upload a video (two minute maximum) that illustrates the change that occurred. Finished, edited video with opening and closing titles and music (do not use copyrighted music, including samples). b. Mail raw footage (Beta), not to exceed three minutes, with accompanying paragraph describing: inspiration, action and results! 2. Narrative and photos: Upload a description of 500 words or less that answers the three questions above. Narratives must be submitted with hi-res photos (300 dpi) that illustrate the change that occurred (no headshots please). Important Note: All individuals featured in photos or video must sign release forms. You can find release forms at the Call for Stories page located at www.nvwstories.org.

Entries will be selected based on the following:

a. Social change impact (metrics of success) b. Innovativeness of solution to community problems c. Originality and creativity of storytelling approach d. Emotional impact

When you submit your stories online at www.nvwstories.org, you will be asked to include the following:

Name, organization (if applicable) personal or organization's address, e-mail, phone number and signed releases. If you are unable to submit your story online, please mail directly to:

Deadlines:

All stories that are submitted will be considered for use on the Conference web site, as features in the media, and in other marketing materials. Stories must be received by May 12, 2008, to be considered for use at the 2008 National Conference on Volunteering and Service. If your story is selected as a feature, you will be contacted for further information.

Service Learning Lunches

All sessions will take place in the BEP 323 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. Lunch will be served. Please RSVP the Wednesday before the event.

Conferences

International Conference on Education and Information Systems, Technologies and Applications: EISTA 2008 (http://www.socioinfocyber.org/eista2008). It will take place in Orlando, Florida, USA, on June 29th to July 2nd, 2008.

The deadlines are the following:

Submissions: November  14th, 2007
Acceptance: January 14th, 2008
Camera-ready: March 5th, 2008

Submitted papers or extended abstracts will have three kinds of reviews: double-blind (by at least three reviewers), non-blind, and participative peer-to-peer reviews.

Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference can have access to the reviews made to their submission so they can accordingly improve the final version of their papers. Non-registered authors may not have access to the reviews of their respective submissions.

Awards will be granted to the best paper of those presented at each session. From these session's best papers, the best 10%-20% of the papers presented at the conference will be selected for their publication in Volume 6 of JSCI Journal (www.iiisci.org/Journal/SCI) and sent free to over 220 research libraries. Libraries of journal author's organizations will receive complimentary subscriptions of at least one volume (6 issues).

Also, we would like to invite you to organize an invited session related to a topic of your research interest. If you are interested in organizing an invited session, please, fill out the respective form provided in the conference web page. We will send you a password, so you can include and modify papers in your invited session.

If the deadlines are tight and you need more time, let us know about a suitable time for you and I will inform you if it is feasible for us.

 

The 8th Annual Imagining America Conference

October 2-4, 2008 in Los Angeles, California

In partnership with the Center for Diversity and Democracy University of Southern California, Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life is a national consortium of colleges and universities committed to public scholarship in the arts, humanities, and design.

Congressional Research Awards Announcement
DEADLINE: All proposals must be received no later than February 1, 2008.

The Dirksen Congressional Center invites applications for grants to fund research on congressional leadership and the U.S. Congress. A total of up to $30,000 will be available in 2008. Awards range from a few hundred dollars to $3,500.

The competition is open to individuals with a serious interest in studying Congress. Political scientists, historians, biographers, scholars of public administration or American studies, and journalists are among those eligible. The Center encourages graduate students who have successfully defended their dissertation prospectus to apply and awards a significant portion of the funds for dissertation research. The awards program does not fund undergraduate or pre-Ph.D. study. Organizations are not eligible. Research teams of two or more individuals are eligible. No institutional overhead or indirect costs may be claimed against a Congressional Research Award.

There is no standard application form. Applicants are responsible for showing the relationship between their work and the awards program guidelines. Applications are accepted at any time. Applications which exceed the page limit and incomplete applications will NOT be forwarded to the screening committee for consideration.

All application materials must be received on or before February 1, 2008. Awards will be announced in March 2008.
