Volunteer to make a difference

Students, faculty, staff and community members can improve lives

Student volunteering is not centralized at NKU. It is part of the campus culture and many departments as well as student organizations coordinate volunteer activities. But here are some  tips for finding volunteer opportunities:

  1. Volunteer opportunities in Northern Kentucky can be posted and searched through the United Way of Greater Cincinnati's Volunteer Match program (http://www.uwgc.volunteermatch.org)
  2. NKU's Office of Student  Life coordinates student volunteer efforts. Contact Tiffany Mayse at mayset@nku.edu or call 859-572-5806.
  3. A resource for students interested in volunteering is available free from the federal General Service Administration. Titled "A Student's Guide to Community Service", it can be downloaded at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/family/spirit/spirit.pdf.
  4. Get involved every spring semester with "Spring into Service." Scores of volunteers gather at NKU and then disperse to pre-selected nonprofits for a morning of service, which can include painting buildings at public parks, cleaning walking trails, playing bingo with senior citizens, or cleaning up roadsides. And if you don't live nearby, you can create your own Spring into Service in your hometown (visit the Spring into Service webpage to learn how).
