Our PartnersKentucky Campus Compact Kentucky Campus Compact (KyCC) is a statewide coalition of Kentucky college and university presidents and their institutions, both public and private, that is dedicated to promoting the civic purposes of higher education. KyCC is part of a network of over 950 colleges and universities nationwide that are committed to integrating service learning as a component of effective teaching and learning, meeting institutional civic responsibilities to help address the needs of the state, and fostering the development of relevant collaborative partnerships between and among campuses. Visit the National Campus Compact website. The University-Community Partnership Grant Program In 2002, President James C. Votruba raised this commitment to the next level when he announced the creation of a University-Community Partnership Grant Program to provide funding to help NKU faculty members and community agencies put this institutional core value into practice by addressing significant issues confronting the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati region. In the first three years of this program, 14 University-Community Partnership Grants totaling more than $536,000, were awarded to NKU faculty members who partnered with schools, social service agencies, health care organizations, nonprofit foundations, government agencies, and other community-based organizations to make a difference in the quality of life for local residents. Another $200,000 has been earmarked to fund this year's grants. For more information about the University-Community Partnership Grant Program, please visit the Office of the Associate Provost for Outreach. Alternative Break Programs The Alternative Break Programs provide an opportunity for NKU students to spend their break period engaged in meaningful service activities with their fellow students. Alternative Break Programs typically involve travel to international or domestic locations where NKU students live with host families and learn about their culture and society while engaging in service that improves the lives and conditions of the local residents. Alternative Spring Break - Mazamitla, Mexico Making Place Matter Making Place Matter is an eighteen-month pilot project designed to aid campuses and their regional and state partners in framing comprehensive visions for their nearby communities and regions. The effort is a partnership between the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), the Alliance for Regional Stewardship, and the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems. It is supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The American Democracy Project The American Democracy Project is a multi-campus initiative that seeks to create an intellectual and experiential understanding of civic engagement for undergraduates enrolled at institutions that are members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). The goal of the project is to produce graduates who understand democracy and are committed to engaging in meaningful actions as citizens in a democracy. |
